I love group training sessions, I love the motivation, competition and camaraderie that they can provide. I can’t bring myself to call Platform 3 a gym, it’s so much more than any usual gym that there should be a new world to describe it. It’s an incredible space filled with all the best toys that everyone must look at and want to try out. And it’s so cool!youtube.com It’s a cross between a nightclub, an activity centre, a boxing club and a gym. It features a competition-boxing ring, climbing wall, house sports therapy room, live DJ set, sauna and juice bar.

It’s an uber-gym.youtube.com I couldn’t wait to get started. They offer a holistic approach incorporating these three components and work on an individual appointment basis, with pricing schedules based on attendance rather than time. Sessions don’t come cheap (prices vary from AED 300 for a single session up to AED 12,500 for 50 classes). However, without the commitment of an annual membership, a bespoke programme is tailored precisely to your needs. Founder of Platform 3 Fitness, Omar Al-Duri (and top 5 finalist in the 2011 Shape Magazine Personal Trainer of the Year) showed me round and my session started with an attack on the climbing wall as a warm up. I’ve never climbed before but I was totally shocked at how difficult it was. Not only was I absolutely rubbish, but within minutes my forearms were screaming and I had a complete sweat on. Note to self: must work on grip strength.

Facial recognition has been around for more than a decade. File storage costs have become significantly cheaper over the past few years, making it much easier for users to store video. One thing that’s changed is the speed at which sophisticated computer programs quickly search and analyze thousands of hours of camera footage. A camera in a shopping mall, for instance, can capture many different angles of your face over time, enabling a computer to model the way your head looks from different angles and making it easier for police to spot you. And now video analytics programs can search footage for combinations of people’s traits.

"The main use case is security," the BriefCam official said, adding that BriefCam would be happy for the opportunity to work with the UAE security apparatus. Stephanie Weagle, chief marketing officer for BriefCam, said in a statement that biometric technology has "significant public safety benefits" including identifying suspects and finding missing children. "The expectation is that technology designed for public safety is used in accordance with applicable laws and to uphold civil rights," she said.youtube.com China’s Huawei displayed a data analysis platform labeled FusionInsight that could quickly comb through thousands of hours of footage for faces and license plates.youtube.com A company official said the platform had the ability to blacklist individuals. When asked about this, Huawei declined to comment.

Microsoft displayed a video analytics platform that claims to detect the face, age, and emotional state of people seen on camera, as well as the size of crowds, though company officials did not refer to applications in law enforcement. Asked whether the platform is being used in the UAE, a spokesperson for Microsoft pointed BuzzFeed News to a blog post by the company’s president calling for governments to regulate facial recognition technology. To illustrate the prowess of Hikvision’s technology, Wang, the company executive, showed a six-minute film shot in the style of a primetime cop drama. In the film, a team of Chinese police officers, whose voices had been dubbed in American-accented English, use the company’s suite of products to track down a jewel thief wearing a black ski mask. "Add him to the criminal database and track him down," the lead police officer barks.

At the end of the film, Wang told the audience the surveillance technology, and the way it could work together, was all real — "not science fiction," he said. "This is not a system that one manufacturer can build alone," he added. "I’m glad to be here today if users and partners are interested. Chinese companies like Hikvision, which have benefited from Chinese government programs promoting the development of homegrown artificial intelligence technologies and from being able to test their tech on the Chinese public, have become leading players in facial recognition. Hong Kong-based SenseTime, the world’s most valuable AI startup, told BuzzFeed News it is setting up an office in Dubai — the company’s first outside Asia. Discussions between Smart Dubai, the city’s "smart city" authority, and SenseTime about implementation of its facial recognition products are progressing, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Smart Dubai said it met with SenseTime in Shanghai last year to identify possibilities for working together.

To help you make some of your choices, Goal has picked out a few games and provided some background into the fixtures. Watford may have dropped off a little in recent weeks but Marco Silva's men are still a formidable force in front of their own fans and look fair value to get another win at Vicarage Road when they host Huddersfield. The home side have held both Liverpool and Tottenham plus beaten Arsenal at this venue so far. They've also faced everyone in the current top six apart from Chelsea already so may well pick up plenty more home wins in the months to come against sides lower down the table.

The Terriers have had some success on home soil since their promotion to the top flight but have a serious bout of travel-sickness. On the road David Wagner's men have tasted defeat on six occasions out of a possible eight and could come unstuck again here. Leeds will be hoping to climb into the play-off places over the festive season and the Whites should have enough to pick up a victory against Norwich this weekend. The home side have won three of their previous five, with the only defeat in that sequence coming against title favourites Wolves. Norwich on the other hand, have lost each of their last three Championship games away from home including a 2-1 reverse at struggling Bolton.

The Canaries may have come out on top against Sheffield Wednesday at home on their last outing but it may well be Leeds fans that are full of festive cheer after this clash at Elland Road. There looks to be a genuine title race in Serie A this season as opposed to the usual Juventus procession and there are just five points between leaders Inter Milan and Roma in fourth spot. Napoli look well placed to get three points from their trip to Torino and keep up the pressure on their rivals. Serie A clashes end all square. Everton fans will already be acutely aware of Atalanta's impressive performances this term and Gian Piero Gasperini's side should hold their own against Lazio.

Lazio have enjoyed plenty of success on the road too, winning seven of eight league games thus far but they've kept just one clean sheet in that time. With this in mind, picking the stalemate between two tough teams could be a shrewd option for this weekend's FreePlay coupon. What is Merrybet FreePlay? First Time to Dubai - Package or not? First Time to Dubai - Package or not? My wife and I would like to make our first trip to the Middle East later this year by visiting Dubai (from SFO). For first timers, would you suggest we take a package tour that includes Air, Hotel, etc. Is late December (Xmas-New Years) a good time to visit this area? Are there times of the year to avoid due to local holidays or due to weather? Any tips are greatly appreciated.. I'm sure someone with more experience than myself might chime in later. But, for now I'll give you my opinion I've been to Dubai 4 times and have plans to visit again this coming Christmas and New year. Firstly, you don't need to book tours as a group in Dubai, and frankly I steer clear of group tours. Now, if you want a specialized tour one on one that's another thing.

But, for the most part, just pick and choose what you want to do and set aside the time to do it on your own. There are taxis everywhere, and now you can use the Careem taxi app with the RTA government taxis. There's a metro and bus system also for getting around, which is easy to navigate on the RTA app or just by using Google maps. From about November to March the weather is good, however with each passing month thereafter, it gets hotter. I'm used to the extreme heat in Southwest USA so it really doesn't bother me.

But, for most people it could be a problem. Ramadan is in effect right now through about the 4th of June. There are a few other government holidays that ban the sale/serving of alcohol for instance. Regardless, tourists can't buy alcohol only in the airport duty free when staying in a hotel that has a liquor license. Or at a bar. Spring and summer months are a lot less expensive to visit Dubai. Winter months, especially around new year's is double and triple the price and rooms must be booked for at least 2 or 3 days. Especially anywhere near the main attractions downtown. As far as booking flights and hotels, many times it's cheaper to book together depending on which airline and hotel class you're looking for.

For instance, if you're looking at flying Emirates then sometimes it's beneficial to use "Emirates Vacations" website, which is not the same as the emirates holidays website. The prices on Emirates Vacation site is very good. Just clear your cookies after each use as the prices start to increase. Regardless, if you use a package deal or not, do your own research and foremost, figure out what type of accommodation your family would like. Above all enjoy your trip! On edit: Starting on December 26 is the annual Shopping Festival,h which lasts several weeks. Another reason I'm visiting this time during the holidays. My wife and I would like to make our first trip to the Middle East later this year by visiting Dubai (from SFO).

This seems like such a new and exciting part of the world to explore. At the risk of suggesting something that would either upset your plans or be ignored from the get-go, if you want to see the Middle East, I would not start with Dubai. Have you considered Jordan, which will provide a far more authentic Middle Eastern experience while also being safe and easily accessible to English speakers? Starting with Dubai is, to my way of thinking, almost like visiting the U.S. Disney World and Las Vegas. MSPeconomist, jgor and 1 others like this. Xmas and NYE, hotel prices seem to quadruple in Dubai.

It may be the only time of the year that it make sense to do a package that includes hotel. Getting around is not an issue, there are plenty of taxis, etc, use the above mentioned RTA app. Of course a rental car is best, and allows for maximum flexibility.
